The Concept Hair Learner of the Year Final recently celebrated emerging talent in hairdressing and barbering. Out of over 3,000 initial entries, 60 finalists competed at Telford College. Freya Hadfield from West Suffolk College secured the overall title.
The event, compered by Dom Lehane of the How To Cut It podcast, featured a judging panel including Nicola Cole from VTCT Skills, Jason Hall for L'Oréal Professionnel, and representatives from Alan Howard, Denman Professional, Design Essentials, Kenchi Blades, Wahl, and the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. Several colleges were represented among the category winners.
This annual competition highlights dedication within educational institutions. While the focus is rightly on the learners, the extended deadline for the Concept Hair Recognition Awards to April 22nd encourages colleges and educators to nominate the individuals and teams driving standards. It prompts reflection on how support structures within salons and colleges contribute to developing this next wave of talent.
