Salon Owner Lloyd Court of seanhanna Wimbledon highlights that lighting is key when colouring hair. His advice focuses on achieving true colour results, whether on clients or for social media photos.
Court suggests using ring lights set to a neutral sunlight temperature, about one metre from the client, to avoid artificial colour casts. He also recommends prioritising natural light sources in the salon for the most accurate representation of hair colour. This helps prevent clients from being surprised by a different tone when they see their hair under home lighting.
If natural light isn't available, soft strip lighting offers an even, neutral illumination. Court notes that light affects shades differently; blondes are particularly prone to tonal shifts under varying lights. Even warm tones like red or copper can appear artificially intensified under spotlights, creating a false 'root glow'.
Accurate photography is also crucial. Court warns that overly edited or artificially lit photos of hair colour can misrepresent results, leading to client dissatisfaction when their outcome doesn't match the social media image. This focus on precise colour representation highlights the need for salons to continually evaluate their lighting setups.
