Spas and fitness centres are exploring advanced technologies to capture a share of the $22 billion wellness market. NuCalm, a drug-free system based on neuroscience, claims to provide the equivalent of two hours' sleep in just 20 minutes.
The system guides the user's brain into a relaxed state, addressing stress and anxiety without side effects. Jim Poole, NuCalm President/CEO, states the technology allows on-demand mental state management, potentially creating new revenue streams for venues. NuCalm has found application for individuals with PTSD, those undergoing cancer treatment, and professionals in high-stress roles.
This system is reportedly used daily by 78 professional sports teams, U.S. Special Forces, and the FBI, accumulating 1.3 million minutes of use across 100 countries. It has also supported 2.4 million surgical procedures, achieving a 95% satisfaction rate among users.
NuCalm can be offered as a standalone treatment or integrated with services like massage. While the technology is gaining traction, the specific neuroscience behind its claims and how it integrates into existing salon service workflows warrants closer examination by business owners considering its adoption.
