The National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) staged its Respect Live event, drawing salon owners, educators, and industry leaders to discuss findings from its State of the Sector survey. The gathering aimed to foster dialogue on the UK hair and beauty industry's current challenges and future direction.
Central to the event were the latest results from the quarterly State of the Sector survey, providing data-driven insights into business sustainability, workforce issues, education, and growth. These findings reportedly inform government policy and decision-making, making business participation crucial for national representation.
A panel including Emma Curd (Mattaki Scissors), Darran Gould (Gould Barbers), and Charles Whiston (CW Whiston salon) shared practical perspectives. The discussions explored business realities and the collective role in building a resilient future for the sector.
The NHBF stated that member engagement strengthens its representation, influencing government and sector support. The organisation emphasised that its 84-year history is built on a collective voice. Upcoming events include the AGM on Monday, 6 July 2026, and an EGM on 18 May 2026, intended to involve members in shaping the NHBF's future direction.
While the event successfully convened industry voices and highlighted the value of data collection for policy influence, the specific challenges and solutions discussed remain largely unarticulated in the reporting. The extent to which actionable insights, beyond general calls for engagement, emerged from these conversations is unclear.
