Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com launched its Joybuy platform in the UK and several European markets on March 17, 2026. The company aims to directly challenge established players like Amazon.
Joybuy will offer electronics, home appliances, toys, food, and cosmetics. JD.com plans to attract European shoppers with rapid delivery and competitive prices. In select cities including London, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam, Joybuy promises same-day delivery for orders placed before 11 a.m. under its "double 11" pledge.
The UK operation will use three semi-automated warehouses near London, managed by JD’s logistics arm, JoyExpress. This direct platform approach in Europe follows prior considerations of acquiring UK retailers such as Currys and Argos. JD.com also secured a majority stake in German electronics retailer Ceconomy, gaining access to its existing retail network.
JD.com's international expansion stems from a strategy to diversify growth sources. This move seeks to offset the intense competition and ongoing price wars within China's domestic e-commerce sector. The company's European presence is being built out methodically, combining logistics and retail investments.
