TrichoCare Education and Colourstart are offering 10,000 free online allergy awareness courses to UK hairdressers. This initiative runs during Allergy Awareness Week, from April 22nd to 28th. The one-hour course, normally costing £65, provides essential knowledge on immune systems, allergic reactions, and distinguishing irritation from allergy. It also covers common triggers and steps to take during a reaction.
This training is targeted at all hair professionals, including stylists, barbers, juniors, and reception staff. The partnership highlights the significant prevalence of allergies, with an estimated one-third of the UK population affected. Severe allergies impact up to 20% of this group, creating daily challenges.
Nick Plunkett, CEO of Colourstart, stresses the importance of industry-wide allergy understanding. He argues that this knowledge empowers professionals to make informed decisions, fostering trust and enabling higher service standards. The readily available online format allows busy salon staff to complete the training at their convenience, earning a CPD certificate upon completion.
While this offer addresses a critical knowledge gap, it raises questions about how such training will be integrated into ongoing professional development. Will salons proactively encourage staff to enrol, or will uptake rely solely on individual initiative? The true impact will be measured by the practical application of this newfound awareness in daily salon operations.
