Consultant Dermatologist Dr Sharon Wong has been appointed President of the Institute of Trichologists (IOT). Dr Wong brings over 15 years of experience in hair loss and scalp health to the role. Her appointment on 20th January 2026 signals the IOT’s focus on enhancing professional standards and patient-centred care in trichology.
The hair and scalp sector faces growing demand for informed and ethical solutions. Consumers now seek not only aesthetic improvements but also clear answers regarding scalp health and hair loss. This trend presents both opportunities and obligations for beauty professionals.
Dr Wong highlights the need for closer collaboration across the industry. This includes professionals like trichologists, dermatologists, and salon staff working together. Such cooperation aims to ensure clients receive consistent and medically appropriate support for their concerns.
Her extensive background includes establishing one of the UK's first dedicated NHS hair and scalp clinics in 2012. This clinic demonstrated a significant unmet need for specialist services. Dr Wong also co-founded DOSE, a platform launched in 2025 that bridges the gap between dermatology and everyday hair care through consultations and treatments.
The IOT, as the UK’s leading body for trichology, will now enter a new phase under Dr Wong’s leadership. This next chapter is expected to prioritise integration and innovation within the profession.
