The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) has launched a free digital handbook titled 'Navigating a Volatile World – A Handbook for the UK Cosmetics Industry'. This resource, developed with sustainability group Forum for the Future, aims to help beauty and personal care companies understand sustainability challenges and identify new business opportunities.
The handbook provides practical tools covering major global trends like climate breakdown and water scarcity. It also offers guidance on responding to emerging risks, shifts in consumer behaviour, and future product needs. Nico Shaw Núñez of the CTPA stated the guide equips companies to succeed in a fast-evolving environment, moving beyond just risk mitigation to foster innovation and growth.
This initiative builds on the CTPA's 2018 collaboration with Forum for the Future on a 'Net Positive Cosmetics Industry' strategy. The guide is accessible to both CTPA members and non-members via the CTPA website. Further support will be offered through a series of webinars over the next 12 months.
While the handbook provides a welcome starting point for businesses grappling with environmental and social issues, its practical application will be key. For many smaller salons and independent beauty businesses, understanding these complex global trends and translating them into actionable strategies within their specific operations may still present a significant hurdle. The CTPA's subsequent webinar series could prove vital in bridging this gap, offering tailored advice beyond general principles.
