Boots has initiated a pilot programme offering in-store consultations for prescription weight loss treatments across 17 UK branches. Eligible customers can now access these services through face-to-face appointments with pharmacist prescribers trained in weight management medicines.
This private service extends to selected stores in major cities, including London, Manchester, and Edinburgh. During consultations, pharmacists will assess medical history, perform weight and height checks, and determine patient eligibility for treatment. Subsequent appointments will monitor progress.
The pilot complements Boots' existing digital service via its Online Doctor platform, maintaining consistent pricing for both channels. Patients receive integrated support, such as a 10-week weight loss programme, a progress-tracking app, and a 12-month aftercare plan for those discontinuing medication. This initiative enhances Boots' existing offering of over 150 healthcare services.
Boots aims to satisfy growing demand for medically supervised weight management solutions by merging digital and physical access. The service provides convenient, pharmacist-led treatment combined with behavioural and lifestyle guidance.
For independent salons and barbershops, this move by a major high-street chemist highlights the increasing integration of health and wellness services into retail environments. It raises questions about potential competition and collaboration opportunities within the broader beauty and wellness sector, particularly for businesses exploring complementary treatments.
